The Play Reading Co-op, founded by Rachel F. Hirsch and Sarah Lauren Marcus, is a collective of Western Massachusetts theater makers who come together (currently weekly via Zoom) to read and discuss brand new, unpublished scripts by and alongside local and semi-local playwrights. The reading is intended to be informal and without an audience other than other co-op “members” and potentially a friend or colleague(s) of the writer. Writers may choose to bring a new draft of the same script back as it's ready and, in this way, the Co-op continues to be a part of the new play's development.
We are currently seeking rolling submissions of full length and short plays and musicals from Pioneer Valley writers. We are ideally looking for contemporary pieces with at least 2 prominently featured female identifying roles. It is also important that the script works well in a reading setting. It must still be engaging and make sense to listeners when read without costumes or sets. Have a piece you'd like to contribute? Get in touch.
Interested in getting involved as a reader? We'd love to chat with you too! Send us an e-mail or fill out this Intake Form.
